What's This All About?

First and foremost, Called to Care is the untold story of Caring for a loved one with mental illness; it is a heart-rendered account in full colour.

This book also documents the struggle, overwhelm, and exhaustion of ALL unpaid carers across the world. We may be caring for different diagnoses, but the strain & unmeasured cost  of caring remains consistent

Who Is This Book For?

If you are an unpaid carer of a loved one, this book has been written for you, to support you, encourage you and give you ideas and tips that I used to survive the unsurvivable.

If you are a person suffering from a mental illness or know someone suffering from mental illness, this book is also for you. You will find hope in between the pages, where hope had left long ago; you will understand resilience and believe, maybe for the first time, that YOU are NOT your Diagnosis!

This book is also for seasoned professionals who really gives a shit about mental illness and are curious to learn how to improve our broken and fractured system; this book is especially for you. You are a change-maker, and you face the cold hard reality of mental illness every day.

Together we can make mental health better for all.

TESTIMONIALS

I can tell I am going to need tissues, I am already welling up from the start, there are so many similarities that I can relate to. It is raw & beautifully written. You have put into words what a lot of carers go through, I think it should be given to all psychologists and students of psychology to demonstrate the failures of our mental health system.

Mary Bolgarow - Unpaid Carer

There is so much wisdom shared from the heart of a Mum’s journey in this book. I found Called to Care a profound read into the challenges of having a family member who suffers from mental illness.  The journey that Christina and Ashley have undergone through the years is at times incomprehensible, but Christina holds the readers hand to share the realities of what she has gone through as a Mum and unpaid caregiver to Ashley. Thank you Christina for bringing this book to life and to all the readers this book is going to help.

Much love to you- Teresa

Author Christina Johns

Christina Johns considers herself an unremarkable mother who happened to help her son through a difficult diagnosis and then write about it.

A single mother thrown into the middle of a broken mental health system as her son, Ashley, struggled with an undiagnosed, complicated, treatment-resistant Mental illness.

Christina has fought for her son his entire life and made many sacrifices, none of which she regrets—returning to school at 50 and finally realising her dream of being a qualified artist.

Christina went on to study human behaviour and life coaching and has successfully combined her passions and experiences into a thriving business that teaches the healing benefit of art to overwhelmed and stressed unpaid Carers worldwide, online and in person. www.coachingtheartistway.com

At 61, Christina is now realising her long-held dream to be a published author as she embraces life like the young adult she forgot to be as she grew up quickly with the responsibilities of motherhood at 16.

Christina’s journey into published writing is planned to be the first of many as she chooses to rewrite her life and live like tomorrow will never end.
